This section introduces two related notation guides.
The Digital Pointed Notation (DPN) Guide presents the core system for notating the main melody.
The Numbered Bass Notation (NBN) Guide explains an optional complementary system for notating the ison or bass part using simple numbers.
The pointed-notation method is inherited from Father Michael Fortunato's work and is designed to be accessible for singers, small choirs, and choir leaders seeking a practical way to notate music using simple symbols on a computer, tablet, or mobile phone. The guide covers the essential elements: the signs used in DPN, how note lengths are marked, the direction of melodic movement, the NBN system, and the tone-pattern markings that help singers understand the structure of each chant.
